KOLAR/CHANNAPATNA/BELUR: Calling Deve Gowda’s JD(S) Congress’s “B team”, PM Modi on Sunday cautioned voters in Karnataka that each vote for the regional party would be “a vote for an unstable government in Karnataka”.
At Channapatna in the Vokkaliga heartland, Modi said, “Ee baariya nirdhara BJP bahumatha sarkara (this time the decision must be for a complete majority for BJP). When there is a BJP government, there is a double-engine government — It is a government that will ensure 100% for every family.”
Without naming Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge once, the PM said that while his “Mann ki Baat” had just reached the landmark of 100 episodes, Congress was on course to completing a century of the choicest abuses they could think of targeting him with. He said Congress’s hatred for him was increasing by the day primarily because “my war on graft is hurting them the most”.
Modi’s remarks on Kharge’s “poisonous snake” barb came during a rally in Kolar, the same place where ex-MP Rahul Gandhi had in 2019 remarked on the Modi surname, leading to his recent conviction for criminal defamation.
Modi said that every time a Congress government gets elected, it takes policies in “reverse gear” and JD(S) just falls in line. “For BJP, Karnataka is the country’s growth engine, but Congress and JD(S) want to use it as their ATM,” he said. “They are two sides of the same coin, and are cozy with each other in Delhi. ”
